"Porrajmos," the other face of the Holocaust exhibit in Creswell

Few know the meaning of the word "Porrajmos," even if it is part of our history as much as the Holocaust. It means "devouring" speaking Sinti. It encompasses all the atrocities of destiny now, like the Jews, Sinti and Roma. It 'also the title of the exhibition held in the Council Room of the City of Creswell Institute for the History of the Resistance of Biella and Vercelli.

"We chose Creswell - says the director of the institute, Enrico Pagano - following the events related to the presence of a Roma camp in the country. Our intention is to to spread as much as possible the story of these persecutions, of which few have news and memory. " The mayor, Marinella Venegoni, he immediately accepted the proposal with interest.

"Porrajmos. Other traces of a path to Auschwitz "unfolds through a thirty display panels with pictures, photographs and testimonies from the poor choices historiographical production of Roma and Sinti. The Nazi and Fascist Europe was the scene of the annihilation of at least half of the European nomadic people: 500,000 men, women and children killed, tortured and deported to concentration camps, victims of medical experiments, exterminated in gas chambers and ovens crematoria.

But in none of the trials of Nazis, even in that of Nuremberg, the tragedy was their space, until 1980 the German government officially recognized the racial persecution. And even the 2000 law establishing the Memorial Day remembers the extermination of Roma and Sinti. Yet

Porrajmos Holocaust and were generated by the same Christian and Catholic Europe in which we live today: "We belong intimately - Pagano adds - and not to perpetrate the oblivion in which it is likely to delete them, here is initiatives like this."

The exhibition will run until February 7, Monday to Friday from 8.30am to 12.30pm. The exhibition, presented for the first time in Biella at the "Day of Remembrance" nel 2008 e realizzata dall’istituto di cultura Sinta di Mantova con l’associazione Nevo Drom di Bolzano, è curata da Carlo Berini e Paola Dispoto e ha il patrocinio dell’assessorato alla Cultura di Crescentino e della Regione.

Esposta anche in altre città piemontesi, nel Vercellese registra la sua prima assoluta a Crescentino in occasione della celebrazione 2011 del Giorno della Memoria.
